American Friends of the Louvre Soirée
06/03/2010 - By New York, NY

American Friends of the Louvre Soirée

On the evening of June 3rd, the Young Patrons Circle of the American Friends of the Louvre held their annual fête - Soirée au Louvre.

The evening began with a champagne reception at Dalva Brothers gallery where guests were treated to a private viewing of museum quality furniture, porcelain, and bronzes from the 18th century (some of which had royal provenance). Dalva Brothers (now in its third generation of ownership) has under its roof one of the finest collections of decorative arts in the world.

Following the reception at Dalva Brothers, the main benefit was held at the home of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy (the former Payne Whitney Mansion on Fifth Avenue). Guests mingled and danced in the second floor ballroom with décor by Kyle Hardin DeWoody, music by DJ Ari and huge French doors overlooking the greenery of Central Park while savoring VeeV cocktails, champagne, hors d’oeuvres and dessert. The evening also featured a stunning video art instillation by XXXX Magazine. It was a great opportunity for New York’s younger set of Francophiles to get together in the name of a great institution, the Musée du Louvre, which is the most visited museum by Americans after the Metropolitan and the National Gallery in D.C.

The festive group then moved on to the after party which was graciously hosted by The Pierre. The celebratory mood was seemingly unending, as was evident by those who stayed until the wee hours. It was a magical evening.

Funds raised on June 3 will help American Friends of the Louvre continue its fund raising efforts toward the restoration of the Musée du Louvre’s 18th -century decorative arts galleries. Closed since 2008, the galleries are being upgraded and re-designed by Jacques Garcia. The renovations and new display of the Musée du Louvre’s incomparable collections will be complete in 2012.
