The ASF Cultural Award recognizes individuals or organizations whose achievement in the fields of art and culture has significantly furthered understanding between the United States and the Scandinavian countries.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) promotes international understanding through educational and cultural exchange between the United States and the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. A not-for-profit organization that relies on the generosity of private donors in the U.S. and the Nordic countries, the ASF carries on an extensive program of fellowships, grants, trainee placement, publishing, membership offerings and cultural activities. This past year, the ASF awarded more than $1 million in grants and fellowships to scholars, individual students, artists and professionals.

The ASF established Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America in October 2000. As the leading center of Nordic culture in the U.S., Scandinavia House offers the public a wide range of programs: art and design exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, readings, lectures and symposia. The ASF has associate members and subscribers worldwide. More than 27,000 Scandinavians and Americans have participated in its exchange programs since its founding in 1910.
